The Willow Tree Foundation Partnership

Local residents Richard and Kelly Tyler contacted Kingston Charitable Foundation at the end of July 2022, to start the conversation about how we could collectively support local, Kingston residents living with cancer.

We created a Bespoke Restricted Fund for them, which is achieving their Willow Tree Foundation charitable aims.  It is a privilege for our teams to work together, combining expertise and experience, to help even more local people in meaningful and tailored ways.

Grants

Applications for this grants programme are closed.

This grants programme will directly support local people living with blood cancer in the following ways:

  • Grants for People Newly Diagnosed with a Blood Cancer £500

For people who have be recently diagnosed with Blood Cancer.  We know that the shock of diagnosis is enough & this fund can help towards your rent/mortgage and expenses for a bit while you arrange your treatment plan.

  • Grants for Drugs, Alternative Treatment & Surgery Support  £500

For people diagnosed with Blood Cancer who would like to access integrative treatment or medication/surgery that isn’t included in the NHS.  We are keen to understand how we can support you in the ways that you need us to.

  • Grants for Creating a new Future  £500

For people who are in remission from Blood Cancer.  As you start the new chapter of your life, your home/lifestyle might require modifications, you might have accumulated debt during your treatment, or you need to retrain to return to work.  We are keen to understand how we can support you in the ways that you need us to.

  • Grants for Additional Expenses  £500

For people who have or are in remission from Blood Cancer.  The kinds of things our grant could pay for are childcare, extra medications or travel/parking.  These examples are just for guidance purposes, we are keen to understand how we can support you in the ways that you need us to.

Richard is in remission, and continues to work tirelessly, to raise funds, awareness and support people living with cancer, with Kelly.  They have a vibrant, supportive community which can be accessed through their Facebook page.

Richard and Kelly have also created Willowtones, a wonderful, local choir which launched earlier in the year, at The CornerHouse Theatre, in Surbiton.

To learn more about how our Kingston Charitable Foundation team could create a Bespoke Restricted Fund for you, your family or business, to help support local people in ways that are important to you, please contact our CEO, Hicky Kingsbury.

The Willowtones Choir is free to join and is for people who have been touched by cancer, whether that be with a diagnosis, as a carer, or a healthcare worker supporting others.

Studies suggest that an activity as simple as singing could reduce stress-induced depression, helping to improve wellbeing and quality of life amongst patients.

The Willowtones Choir meets every other Monday at 7.00pm at the CornerHouse Theatre in Surbiton, where their vocal coach Val leads everyone together in song, after which the members have tea and cake for an hour to catch up as a community.

You don’t need to be able to sing to join, there is no audition and there's no commitment to attend every session.
